Hairspray is the story of a positive child named Tracy Turnblad, a would-be dancer who wants to gain a position on a local TV show referred to as the Corny Collins Show. The show is in actual fact based on a Baltimore-based television series named the Buddy Dean Show in Baltimore, Maryland.
Tracy is no one in the performing arts sphere when she has an interview, even so she is selected for one of the dancing parts and against awfully long odds she becomes a dancing idol nearly overnight. Tracy is cheerful by this brand new recognition, & she decides to utilise her celebrity status to make positive improvements to the television show. The major motive for these positive improvements is to do with race. Tracy aspires to racially merge the TV program, and as any person may perhaps guess, she is faced with significant resistance.
Hairspray arrived at the West End in two-thousand and seven, opening for first previews at the Shaftesbury Theatre on October the eleventh, before being revealed to the paying public at its big opening on October 30, 2007. The theatrical play has included some familiar actors — Michael Ball plays the part of Edna Turnblad, Tracy’s very own mother, offering a persuasive rendition in this testing female part, whilst Mel Smith played joke shop proprietor Wilbur Turnblad, Tracy’s father. The original cast in the West End features newcomer to the theatre stage, Leanne Jones, in the part of Tracy.
Hairspray the musical has got numerous positive mentions from reporters & musical theatre enthusiasts alike. Jacqueline remarked: “I have been 4 times up to now and I will be without doubt going back sometime next week & a few more times also. I love the show & wish they could stay on much longer. Ben Ellis is superb as link and Leanne Jones as Tracey & Michael Ball, well they are all remarkable. The musical hairspray is by far my favourite, merely because it is positive and if you’re feeling a bit miserable then it is certain to make you feel a whole lot better.
